Whilst Jack Frost seems to think his beloved Winter still requires crawler gear, your average classic car enthusiast has their sights firmly set on longer days, green fields and the alluring scent of any mechanically propelled machine.
Yes, the classic scene has checked it’s metaphorical blind areas, moved off slowly and has another full calendar of family and classic car days to entertain the enthusiastic petrolheads.
Harrogate Car Enthusiasts
Whilst we’re on the subject, hardy northerners might be interested to know the Harrogate Car Enthusiasts show will be held on Saturday 26th may at Harrogate railway athletics football ground, and will be open to the public from 10:00-17:00hrs.
The club began it’s classic travels approximately 6 years ago, when Barry Busby and a few friends decided the time was right to begin a classic car club. A group decision lead to a less ‘niche’ approach and a more ‘car lovers’ thought process.
“Our initial plan was to allocate a category to each of us. 1 – classic cars, 1 – modified cars, 1 – 4×4’s and 1 – other cars of interest.
“We checked out various venues and days, eventually settling for the 2nd Tuesday of every month, at the Squinting Cat in Harrogate from 7.30 pm. Over the years people have come and gone but we now have an eclectic mix of regular visitors.
“Unlike a lot of clubs, ours is just a social gathering for all car lovers, where we meet up and check out the various cars attending. It’s family friendly with events and functions throught the year, including a Christmas knees up.”
Following substantial feedback and that obligatory ‘classic’ learning curve, this years show has been organised earlier and even has a local actor / movie director involved.
Attractions include stalls, children’s rides, animal encounters and the usual petrolhead magnet – autojumble! Other favourites attending are the Institute Of Advanced Motoring, Harrogate air cadets and the Yorkshire air ambulance. Food will be served from the venue and bar open all day. There will also be stage erected with Harrogate Latin dance performing throughout the day and other live entertainment.
Due to space available, cars will have a limit of 200, including 3 steam engines booked, classic truck and hopefully a few vintage tractors.
Remember the show will be on Saturday 26th may at Harrogate railway athletics football ground, open to the public 10 till 5. If anyone is interested in the club or show they can visit their Facebook page via: Harrogate Car Enthusiast.
