A 1965 Ferrari 275 GTB ‘Alloy’ Berlinetta with Coachwork by Pininfarina/Scaglietti has sold for £2,516,142 at Bonhams Zoute Sale held at the Zoute Grand Prix event on Friday 11 October 2019.
The stunning Italian ‘long nose’ stallion was the front runner of a string of thoroughbred auction stable being offered for sale at the Zoute Sale held at Knokke-Heist, Place Albert de Knokke Le Zoute.
Ferrari Classiche Certified and one of only 60 alloy-bodied cars made, the stunning Ferrari is finished in ‘rosso chiaro’ with a blue interior and was previously owned for around 10 years by Gregory Noblet, son of Ferrari works driver and ‘gentleman racer’ Pierre Noblet, who, together with Jean Guichet, was on the podium at the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1962 (3rd) and 1963 (2nd) in a 250 GTO.
Jose Roskinski, Sport Auto, July 1965:
‘The 275 GTB is… a superlatively vigorous, very agile and quick automobile. Its comfort, the quality of its finish, the original lines of its bodywork all justify its exceptionally high price, for it is an exceptional automobile. It is a thoroughbred, with luxury devoid of excess, and a fiery temperament… ‘.
The car was given a €250,000 ‘bare metal’ restoration back in 2014 by UK-based GTO Engineering, commissioned by vendor, Mr Noblet who maintained the Ferrari with no expense spared, and over the next ten years entered various events, beginning with the Tour Auto in August 2004 and culminating in the Navarra Tour in October 2013. In between, Mr Noblet entered his 275 GTB in the following events, achieving numerous podium finishes (full results available):
