A stunning 1992 Porsche 911 bought new by legendary footballer Diego Maradona is being offered at auction for the first time ever in a Paris sale in March 2021…
Love or hate him, the extraordinary Diego Maradona was never far from controversy and never failed to impress every time he kicked a football in training or competition. Whether he upset a few fickle footy fans along the way matters not – he was simply the greatest footballer in the world. Fact.
Away from the green stuff and the limelight, the star also appreciated the finer things in life which happened to include fast cars and some other not so healthy options that money could buy someone with seemingly limitless funds. This particular car is a rare 1992 Porsche 911 Type 964 Carrera 2 Convertible Works Turbo and was driven by the Argentinian legend while at Seville.

‘El Diego’ was given the obligatory hero’s welcome when he arrived at Seville, promising success and shirt sales for the club which had previously been the case at Napoli winning two Serie A titles and the love of the Italians along the way. As ever, nothing is straight forward when Maradona is factored into the equation – shortly after he was banned for 15-months from the game for failing a drugs test.

One of only 1,200 964 Carrera 2 Convertible Works Turbo Look variants produced in a two-year run, Maradona took delivery of the elite 1992 silver top-of-the-range brand new Porsche on November 6. The Porsche was regularly spotted driving to and from football training by his fans where his right foot on the accelerator pedal got him into just as much trouble as his left hand did on the ball. The ‘hand of God’ was nowhere in sight and the player was finally stopped in his tracks by armed police for jumping a red light and speeding at 180km/h through the city centre.
We are delighted to present this quintessential 90s Porsche with its very colourful and unique provenance, which will appeal to many football enthusiast collectors worldwide
