The forthcoming H&H Classics & Motor Sport Hall of Fame Auction provides something for everyone, including a 1965 Jaguar E-Type ‘Semi-Lightweight’ Roadster piloted by none other than the now legendary Sir Stirling Moss and Win Percy.

E-type Jaguars are a constant magnetic attraction for classical connoisseurs, none more so than this 1965 Jaguar E-Type ‘Semi-Lightweight’ Roadster (Estimate: £110,000 – £130,000), which initially began its life as left-hand drive E-Type Series 1 4.2 litre Roadster.

Following the import by XK and E-Type specialist Jeremy Broad in 1990, the car was fitted with an original Abbey Panels aluminium bonnet, rumoured to have originated from Sir Robert Ropner’s factory special order ‘Lightweight’-inspired car and converted to right-hand drive, the two-seater’s alloy boot lid, hardtop and doors were supplied by R.S. Panels.

Loaned to Stirling Moss and Mike McCarthy, they contested in the July inaugural Manx Mountain Challenge, eventually finishing a very respectable 9th out of an extremely strong 60 field. A staggering achievement given this was the first time Moss had competed in a Jaguar E-Type.

Since the light usage, the Jaguar has been treated to some new features, including refurbished alloys, lightweight seating very encouraging exhaust tones. EOL 584C is offered for sale with V5C Registration Document, expired FIA HVIF papers and history file.

Mike McCarthy, editor of Classic & Sportscar magazine and co-driver to Sir Stirling Moss on the 1991 Manx Mountain Challenge said:

“The car is always in balance, flowing smoothly from one curve to another, in total control – at speeds that would have me trembling in fear, white-knuckled, were I to attempt them.”
