In exactly one months time RM Sotheby’s, in collaboration with the Porsche Experience Center Atlanta, will deliver a single marque auction – The Porsche 70th Anniversary Sale.
This exclusive sale is to be held at the home of Porsche Cars North America (PCNA) in Atlanta, 27 October 2018.
The 70th anniversary sale will include an action packed programme featuring no less than 70 of German engineering’s best and most sought after collectable Porsche cars.
Classic Series Project Gold
Following a twenty year time-lapse between the first one produced, Porsche Classic manufactured the final 911 Turbo with an air-cooled engine. Incredible attention has been given and paid to the tiniest of detail, with only one of its kind ever to be completed.
The car will be offered at the Porsche 70th Anniversary Sale after having being unveiled to the public at the September 2018 Rennsport Reunion.
Andre Oosthuizen, Vice-President of Marketing for Porsche Cars North America said:
“We are excited to open our doors to RM Sotheby’s exclusive Porsche-only sale this coming October.
“Even before the full concept of our first Porsche Experience Center in North America saw the light of day, we realized the tremendous opportunities a facility like this would attract. In fact, in the three short years since our Grand Opening, we’ve hosted multiple major movie productions, have seen 115,000 enthusiasts come through our doors, opened the Porsche Classic Center, and created rotating displays in our Heritage Gallery.
“Our Porsche Experience Centers are a natural location for a classic automotive auction of this magnitude, and we look forward to working closely with RM Sotheby’s to ensure they, and their guests, have a successful weekend at our home in Atlanta.”
Project Gold was aimed at furthering perfection to what was already a near perfect vehicle, delivering all the usual Porsche traits and capabilities. Bespoke fittings came from Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur.
The result is a unique and ‘state-of-the-art‘ classic, built in celebration of Porsche’s 70th anniversary and the inovative direction the company is heading towards.
Project Gold’s interior boasts the ultimate in leather seating with ‘gold stitching‘ and even includes carbon fiber trimming. Hand crafted, designed and applied by hand, this one-off classic respects the styling and fusion of the original 993 Turbo interior, but also the detail work from the current 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series.
Custom made additions not seen on any other car include Litronic headlights which were completely dismantled then reassembled with custom-made black reflectors.
Project Gold designers also took the bold step of completely reworking the Turbo wheels, which were firstly primed in Metallic Golden Yellow, then given a high-gloss black coat. The final stage included laser beam intrusion, removing the outer black coating, which revealed the golden pinstripe in full glory.

The conditions of sale do however state:
Please note that the Porsche 911 Turbo Classic Series is offered on a Bill of Sale and is not street legal. Neither Porsche AG, Porsche Cars North America, nor RM Sotheby’s make any guarantees as to the ability of a successful buyer to road register the car anywhere around the world. The VIN, which was stamped by hand, naturally follows that of the last 993 Turbo, which was completed in 1998. Prior to sale, Project Gold is intended to be statically presented to Porsche employees and select journalists. Further, at the time of sale, the car will be located at Porsche AG’s facilities in Zuffenhausen, Germany, from which the successful buyer will have to collect the car at their own expense.
