The ‘out of the box’ classic trend continues its merry dance this week as a Peugeot 309 GTI heads swiftly to auction with less than 140 miles on its rather under-worked speedometer.
Most of these low mileage crusaders are thrown into auction simply to earn a fast buck, but the Phase 2 Frenchman never really aspired to those dizzy heights its spirited brother, the 205 GTI did.
The Peugeot 309 GTI is the clichéd Marmite classic, splitting the camp into two or even three regements. The older ‘keep your feet warm’ type embracing it with open arms and a pair of slippers, whilst the younger ‘turn the cap around’ camp give it the proverbial middle finger treatment.

A recent Peugeot 205 GTI gave it’s excited owners an accelerated blood rush as a record auction price of £38,475 at Silverstone Auctions classic sale was achieved.
Investment for the future?
Most likely not, but then again prices have remained steady for quite some time, with middle range classics being tipped to rise once again.
