This classic Opel Manta has been transformed into an ElektroMOD with zero emissions and even reproduces graphics and text messages on its grille…
The legendary sporty coupé with the devil ray emblem celebrated its premiere in September 1970 and was to be an affordable, compact, highly styled coupé with an emblem that would reflect its tenacious looks and sporty personality – this was brave new territory for Opel. “The car that we are presenting to you today does not mark any other model as scrap, but rather joins our previous range as an effective addition and to cover a new requirement” was the press release from back then.
Fast forward some 51 years and the trusty combustion engine has been made redundant with a powerful electric motor taking its place. The instantly recognisable classic lines remain while the ‘GSe’ now represents electrification… backed up heavily by a neon yellow overcoat and a technological smile that radiates across its grille.
The ElektroMOD Manta takes its inspiration directly from its well-respected elderly brother’s geometric lighting arrangement, radiator grille and lightning symbol – a Vizor concept now implemented in the Mokka and Crossland models.
The latest Opel Manta GSe ElektroMOD takes the concept one stage further and uses an ‘expressive Pixel-Vizor signature’ which in essence stretches across the entire front of the vehicle and delivers pretty much anything the driver wants to tell onlookers.
Brand Design Director, Opel Pierre-Olivier Garcia, Manta GSe team said:
“The Manta GSe ElektroMOD is the work of a passionate group of ‘designers’, 3D modellers, engineers, technicians, mechanics, and product and brand specialists. They are all undeniable Opel fans, who love cars and who have fun developing new things. With the Manta GSe, we are building a bridge between the great Opel tradition and a very desirable sustainable future. This mixture of the spirit of the time with what is most modern is absolutely fascinating.”
The Manta GSe ElektroMOD is reminiscent of the ultra-stylish 1970 Opel Manta A while At the same time, embracing the fascination of a growing legion of fans who transform classics like the Manta into the so-called ‘RestoMods’ with modern technologies and new design. The battery-powered Manta GSe ElektroMOD with a fully digital cockpit is as sporty as a genuine Opel GSe and proudly displays its ambitions in its name. MOD stands for changes, both technical and stylistic, as well as a sustainable and modern lifestyle.
Currently, the new Opel Manta GSe ElektroMOD is undergoing the finishing touches in Rüsselsheim and will be presented to the public on May 19, 2021…
