This is a reincarnation of one of the most iconic Ferraris ever made and the ‘California Spyder Revival’ will be unveiled to the public at the Goodwood Revival 17 – 19 September 2021…
Based on the collaborative experience gained from the Scuderia’s sports and Grand Prix racing efforts, Ferrari’s ‘California Spyder’ is widely regarded by many to be the most beautiful car to venture out of Maranello with prices hovering around the $10,000,000 mark if ever they come to market, so try not to compare apples and pears.
Suffice to say, in the next few days, there will be some Goodwood geeks screaming over the top of their neatly tucked in Cravats ‘it’s not a real one’ when just about everyone around them already knows the Italian marque only ever produced around 100 California Spyders in SWB and LWB guise.
In contrast, this quite stunning California Spyder Revival by GTO Engineering will cost around £750,000 – £850,000 depending on whether you fancy an upgraded engine, gearbox or interior and exterior colour changes, which means you’ll get to drive it without sweating profusely every time another vehicle looks remotely closer than it should be.
While GTO’s reincarnation won’t have the Pininfarina and Scaglietti touch, it’s a beautiful thing and will be a handcrafted aluminium body, manufactured with the company’s own tooling in a process that takes over 1,500-man-hours, along with the interior, which can be finished in a range of luxurious leathers.
It’s no slouch either with power originating directly from either a standard 3.0-litre, upgraded 3.5- or 4.0-litre engine, mated to either a standard four- or optional five-speed manual gearbox. That said, speed isn’t everything and GTO are keen to point out the iconic and rare 1960 SWB specification was given priority because of its reputation as a superb, elegant, and understated touring car.
Mark Lyon, Founder and Managing Director of GTO Engineering:
“It’s very exciting to be able to start talking about our latest addition to the Revival series: the California Spyder Revival. It is one of, if not, the most iconic Ferrari road car from the Sixties and it’s something we’ve worked hard over recent years to develop, following on from the success of the 250 SWB Revival and 250 TR Revival models. The feedback from both previous and new Revival-series customers is encouraging and we’re looking forward to working with more owners to create their dream car.”
Pricing of the GTO Engineering California Spyder Revival is indicated between £750,000 – £850,000 depending on the donor vehicle, final specification, local taxes and shipping. Each California Spyder Revival can be tailor-made to each owner’s specific requirements and will be created by hand in the UK, with first customer deliveries scheduled at the end of 2021. GTO Engineering’s stand at Goodwood Revival will be located at the ‘Over the Road’ for the duration of the event (17 – 19 September).
